The following news on Little Ashes is from a source directly linked to the film:
Thanks for your interest in this terrific new movie. We love this film!
Independent films are totally at the mercy of the theater bookers, so every fan letter/email to a theater chain and local manager is more helpful than can be imagined. They determine the interest by their customers and decide if the movie can draw an audience.
These are the chains that are most likely to play an independent movie.
Landmark, Regal, AMC, Carmike, Cinemark, National Amusements
This year there are more movies released than ever before. Head offices that are flooded with requests for one particular film to play in cities all over the country would have a reason to be interested. Emails and letters to local theaters that would play this (most likely your local art cinema) will make bookings easier, too.
There will be more information in the coming weeks on the official website!

In 1922, Madrid is wavering on the edge of change as traditional values are challenged by the dangerous new influences of Jazz, Freud and the avant-garde. Salvador Dali arrives at the university; 18 years old and determined to become a great artist. His bizarre blend of shyness and rampant exhibitionism attracts the attention of two of the university’s social elite – Federico Garcia Lorca and Luis Bunel. Salvador is absorbed into their decadent group and for a time Salvador, Luis and Federico become a formidable trio, the most ultra-modern group in Madrid. However as time passes, Salvador feels and increasingly strong pull towards the charismatic Federico – who is himself oblivious of the attentions he is getting from his beautiful writer friends, Margarita. Finaly, in the face of his friends’ preoccupations – and Federico’s growing renown as a poet – Luis sets off for Paris in search of his own artistic success. Federico and Salvador spend the holiday in the sea-side town of Cadaques. Both the idyllic surroundings and the warmth of the Dali family sweep Federico off his feet. Salvador and he draw closer, sharing their deepest beliefs, inspirations and secrets, convinced that they have found a kind of friendship undreamt of by others. It is more that a meeting of the minds; it is a fusion of souls. And then one night, in the phosphorescent water, it becomes something else…

Thanks to Libbie for sending us this news from the producer of Little Ashes:
We are currently working on a release of the film in the United States for the beginning of November, but have not fixed a date for a UK release as yet. There is the possibility that we will be able to release the film here roughly at the same time, but if you keep in touch with me I should have more detailed news towards the end of the summer, and should at that point also be able to confirm the time-frame for the Spanish release of the film.
Last week’s Twilight-themed cover of Entertainment Weekly has been named as one of the “Ten Magazine Covers That Shook the World.”
When author Stephenie Meyer wrote that “Twilight” hero Edward, the 17-going-on-108-year-old vampire, is supposed to be dazzlingly, blindingly beautiful, we’re pretty sure she didn’t mean in a rosy-lipped female kind of way. Pity then poor Robert Pattison, an actor whose one only claim to fame thus far is his small role as Harry Potter rival Cedric Diggory in “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.” The backlash was immediate. Once MTV.com posted an early preview of the cover, the site attracted hundreds of comments including this one from a poster identified as “Horrified”: “Edward looks like a ZOMBIE. The stylists and photographer obviously had no idea who the characters are… he looks like a hairy, powdered donut.”
Even though the comments aren’t all that great, this is a pretty big deal considering the cover is listed with the famous “Is God Dead?” and John and Yoko covers. I’d say Twilight is making an impact.
You can see all ten covers here. Thanks to Barb at Eclipse LA for the tip! :)
