E! Online talks about “How To Be”Comments Off

Posted by Joy // Categories: Films,Press,Television // Tags:

How To Be is getting more exposure from E! Online.  Marc Malkin gives a quick synopsis of the movie and talks about Rob’s singing on the soundtrack.

Before Twilight and New Moon, our fave movie vampire made the indie comedy How to Be…

Pattinson stars in the quirky flick as Art, a twentysomething young man who moves in with his parents after being dumped by his girlfriend. Feeling he’s hit an all-time low—he works in a supermarket and an assisted-living home—Art ends up hiring a live-in self-help guru.

Art is is also a struggling musician so it’s no wonder Pattz is featured on the movie’s 23-track soundtrack. He sings not one, but three songs.

The movie, which has been making the rounds of the film festival circuit with appearances by Pattinson and director Oliver Irving, will be released through IFC Festival Direct on April 29.

Glamour Spain Inteviews RobComments Off

Posted by Joy // Categories: Films,Press // Tags:

Twilight Poison has recently posted a great interview that Rob did with Glamour Spain. Here’s what Rob had to say below (translated by Twilight Poison) and you can read Twilight Poison’s entire post here.

Does Twilight remind you of your real life and high school, when two people are attracted to each other with such energy?
Yes, although I had really bad luck with girls, the ones I liked hated me and the ones that liked me were not my type. But that’s something that I still go through, I like girls that I shouldn’t like. But I’m learning and now I take my time before I let the girl know.

Do you believe in obsessive love?
Yes, but only from a girl’s point of view. I don’t think men are like that. Not many men read Stephenie Meyer books anyway.

You’re right. That’s what I was going to ask you. Do you believe this story was tailor made for young girls?
Yes, it’s so weird and funny. After reading the books I’ve been asking myself why do women act like that, why do they behave like that, especially younger girls. They turn into freaks when it comes to boys. I like nomal girls who don’t pretend to be anything else.

Would like to live forever?
No, although it does have its advantages.

Do you understand the attraction and mystery around vampires?
I’ve never been insterested in vampires, although I understand why they’re so appealing to some people.

How are you handling being the new It Boy, being in so many covers of magazines now all over the world?
I don’t mind, my character is so good and he deserves to be admired. From the moment I signed up for this I knew what I was getting myself into. Edward is a vampire, he’s not a hero like Superman, he’s a vampire in love who wants to be normal.

It took him 90 years for him to find love. Do you believe in love at first sight?
That’s so boring! I think we all have the right to fall in love several times. The conventional idea of love, the idea of being with somebody for the rest of your life and love her forever sounds so silly to me, and so unrealistic. I think you can love ten people at the same time (laughs).

What are your bigest passions?
I’m boring. I like reading, watching movies and playing the piano.

People say you’ll leave Orlando Bloom without work pretty soon…
I don’t think this will happen to me. I don’t want to lose control of my life, I don’t care how much money I’m offered. Well, I’m kidding, actually. Because if I had massive amounts of money and success, I’d still reach for the same goals and I’d be able to hide better.

What would you be capable of doing for love?
I don’t know, climb a mountain?

Would it scare you to fall in love like the characters in Twilight?
Yes, because it’s an obsessive love, a sick love. When you fall in love and you lose yourself like that. Imagine falling in love like that!

Do you get hit on by difficult women?
I’m crazy about independent women who don’t require too much attention.

Have you ever used the phrase “I’m an actor” as a pick up line?
Not, that phrase doesn’t work here in LA – everybody is an actor here.

Are you planning on going to college?
Yes, but I’m planning on taking it slowly, probably when I’m 28. As an actor you have to take advantage of the opportunities you get and not letting them pass by.

How did you feel at 17?
I felt increadibly awkward all the time. I’ve always been a very edgy person, especially in those years that I didn’t find my place, everything scared me. I just started reading again my journals from when I was 17….

Do you talk about love in them?
Actually, no. I’ve only been attracted to two women in my whole life.

Do you remember the first time you loved someone?
Yes. It’s weird to enjoy your first love, especially if the relationship lasts a long time. Our relationship was really beautiful, but we didn’t have an obsessive love like in the movie. Her presence in my life made me very happy for three years. Now it’s kind of hard to talk about it.

Tell me about that hair…
I always have weird hair: Harry Potter, this one and Dali.

Buzzine has posted a review of How to Be:

Director Oliver Irving’s How To Be is truly an indie film, along the lines of Napoleon Dynamite and Little Miss Sunshine.  This film has similar wince-inducing scenes, often making it painful to watch because of the way the characters act.

Ultimately, it’s the study of a non-functional family and the story of the awkward lead character, played so convincingly by Robert Pattinson; it takes a bit to realize what a brilliant performance it truly is.  There were times you had to laugh because, if you didn’t, you’d have to look away.

Fan Made ‘New Moon’ Poster Dupes Gossip SiteComments Off

Posted by Joy // Categories: Fans,Films // Tags:

The fan made New Moon poster, featuring an open shirted Rob/Edward, that was posted on Popsugar as the official poster is not.  Here is the scoop from Cinematical:

For better or for worse, we all know that Twilight fans are a crafty bunch, and frankly it is not like there aren’t a million pictures of Edward Cullen floating around the hard-drives of the series’ devoted followers, so it shouldn’t be that surprising that fans are already hard at work making one-sheets for the upcoming sequel to Twilight, New Moon. Over at Popsugar, two new posters for the sequel have emerged, and while Cinematical has already confirmed with Summit that these are fake, an almost-shirtless Robert Pattinson is bound to get some attention either way. Not to mention that at least these two posters are more convincing than some of the other photoshop jobs out there.

Publicist Suggests: Ignore Rumors that are Making a StinkComments Off

Posted by Joy // Categories: Press //

Amanda Bell has written another insightful article about Rob’s negative media lately. She enlisted the opinion of entertainment publicist Alyce Hartman:

I spoke with Alyce Hartman, an entertainment publicist in the music, film, and television world, who happens to represent one of Robert Pattinson’s long-time friends, Bobby Long, amongst others. To this concern, Hartman said that “it’s important for talent to be genuine. It beats artificial and contrived any day, but being transparent with the press is risky.” In Robert Pattinson’s case, nearly any joke or quip he makes is perceived to be high-scandal and becomes twisted into a warped concoction to make tongues wag. This runs the risk, say his fans, of distorting Rob’s true nature. Evidently, though delightful, Rob’s transparency is quite risky, indeed.

Continues Hartman, “So, it doesn’t hurt to be somewhat guarded.” In order to handle the kind of negative and lascivious attention that stars like Robert Pattinson are receiving these days, says Hartman, “the best defense is to use foresight. Regardless, at some point, everyone has someone [who] says something unwarranted about them. Expect it and don’t be moved by it.”

Hartman states that the rumors that are already in play with Rob should be ignored. “I’m not a big believer in refuting rumors,” says she, “What’s the point?” It certainly wouldn’t stop them, as we have seen. Quite candidly, Rob reached out, potentially in response to the ensuing rumors, to Moviefone, effectively ending the issues associated with his smell. Yet, once again, Sunday’s top Robert Pattinson news stories were not exempt from including such atrocities. Thus, Hartman may be onto something – perhaps Rob shouldn’t bother refuting the rumors that have been making a stink (pun intended) in the news, but should instead let them fade away into non-existence. As one fan said, “let the real fans parse out the bologna, and pass right on by the obvious gossipmongers that patronize us with their phony overblown nothings.”

Report on ‘How To Be’ at Burbank Film FestivalComments Off

Posted by Joy // Categories: Films // Tags:

My friend, Jeannie and I, attended the LA film premiere of How To Be at the Burbank Film Festival. We arrived a few hours early, when we noticed that there was a sign that read “First Come First Served”.  Although we had tickets we knew seating might be a problem.  Two films before How To Be, the room was almost to capacity.   It was quite obvious by the amount of giggling girls in the theatre that How To Be was the main attraction, as the room was filled with Robert Pattinson fans of all ages (about 18 and older), plus a few men scattered here and there.  I knew the director, Oliver Irving, had been scheduled to attend and do a Q&A at the end, but it had been announced earlier last week that he would be unable to attend. I was hoping someone representing the film might show up, but it wasn’t meant to be. I can report that the movie was a wonderful, quirky, comical film highlighted with a great performance by Rob. The audience laughed out loud in all the right places, and “aww”’d in unison when we felt Rob’s character, Art, go through awkward, depressing and even some funny but painfull moments. The movie received a roaring round of applause at the end and left you feeling hopeful for Art. Although we truly missed the director’s Q&A, we felt very excited and fortunate to be in attendance and were delighted for Rob that it was well received.

Little Ashes was shown tonight at the  Cine Lumiere in London as part of the “Lorca on Film” film series.  The film was introduced by director Paul Morrison and screenwriter Philippa Goslet.  Anja was there and sent us her report:

What can I say, I laughed and cried, I love when a film moves me like that. Outstanding performances by both Rob and Javier, beautiful settings, music and supporting cast.  At first I just saw Rob, then I began to see Saldavor.  Rob really put his heart and soul into the role.

After the film, Paul and Phillipa did a Q&A. Phillipa said she drew the first draft back in 2000. Someone asked if they had considered filming the movie in Spanish to which Morrison replied “every other day!” He continued “the story has been around for over 20 years and no Spanish film maker has ever told it.  These two great artists belong to the world and we wanted to tell their story to a wide audience. The poetry readings were kept in Spanish, we had to do that for Lorca.”

When asked about the casting, Morrison explained that to begin with, they had a big budget which drew some big names but it just never felt right.  After careful consideration and changes to the budget, Rob was approached – originally for the role of Lorca!  But soon Morrison realized that Rob could identify so much better as Dali, as they share the same kind of intelligence.  Rob “completely immersed himself into the role of Dali”.  Morrison spent a lot of time with Javier and Rob on his own, until the chemistry was right.

During the break before the Q & A,  I spotted Rob’s parents and had a chance to say hello. I told them how much I loved their son’s work.  They told me it was their second time of seeing it. Rob’s sisters were also there.  The theatre was at full capacity and I think a lot of people will spread the Little Ashes love!

More from Adaline on Rob at Juno: ‘He smells lovely’Comments Off

Posted by Joy // Categories: Fans //

Adaline, the musician and “Edward” fan who met  Rob at a Juno after-party in Vancouver, has written a blog post detailing her “cosmic story.”   The story leading up to her encounter sure makes it seem like fate was on her side. We think she represented all Rob fans very well! Thank you Adeline!

I walked over and he was saying to another girl, “I can’t do that.  I can’t do that”, so I pulled up beside him and said, “What can’t you do Robert” and he said, “I can’t take pictures tonight”.  So I leaned over and said, “I don’t need a picture of you.  You’re just a normal person trying to have a good time.  I’m just happy to have this moment with you.  Sometimes people want a piece of you, more specifically, a piece of Edward.  I’m happy to be meeting you.  At the end of the day, you’re just like me.”

At that point, he pulled me into an warm embrace and said in my ear, “You are the first person to say that to me all day, thank you.  Honestly, thank you”.  I said, “You’re welcome.  We’re the same”.

I told him about how I was a performer, so you never know, maybe he’ll be at a show someday!

In the end it was lovely to meet the man who so well depicted the character so many people love.  I can tell you two things:

  1. Even though Robert is not Edward, he has the same intense stare in real life.  It took me off guard
  2. He smells lovely.  The stinky thing is a bunch of tabloid garbage.

Read the rest of her story (including how she became an “Edward” fan ) and check out her music on her Myspace page.

Pattinson Online staffer, Crystal, recently was able to interview How to Be writer and director Oliver Irving as well as Rob’s co-stars Johnny White and Mike Pearce. The interview is How to Be packed with a look into writing, developing, filming the movie, and of course the music. In addition, there are also insights into Rob’s character, fame, and Rob’s management.

(Edited content, now with photos.)

I would have things written out, passages I would tell people to kind of learn, but then I would say ‘Don’t worry too much.’ Sometimes they would follow the script and sometimes I would say ‘Just remember what you can remember from the script and start talking because then it would sound so much naturalistic.’ That was the same for Rob as well and often he would add little bits or we would rehearse it and I would go ‘Actually let’s change that.’ And he’d say ‘I wouldn’t say that. That sounds weird.’ And I would say ‘Ok well then I’ll change that. What would you say? How would you say it?’ ‘Well I would say it like this…..’ It was constantly an evolving process. So yeah very much so we tried to re-write it. And we changed things to suit Rob’s character a little bit more and maybe a character more like Rob and once we found him we then found the person right for the role and we changed the part slightly so it would fit more with Rob.

Nina Schubert Painting for RobComments Off

Posted by Joy // Categories: Press //

Stuff.co.nz recently published an interview with ex-model Nina Schubert. She talks about her life as a professional model, life in London, her art, and her ideas on what she would like to do in the future. She also answered a few questions about her friendship with Rob. You can read her comments below and read the entire article here.

She has lived most of her life in London. She went to school there with Robert Pattinson, who lived around the corner and they ended up at the same drama school.

“Rob is still a really good friend of mine. He’s hopefully going to come here, if he can get a break from working. I gave him my paintings when we lived together in London. Now he’s commissioned me to paint one for him and I’m working on it.

“I do really big abstract canvases, influenced by geometric patterns like chessboards and latticework, mainly black and white. I’m interested in optical illusions.”

Shown a dating gossip website printout with herself and Pattinson featured, she reacts icily:

“That means there’s a whole website making money out of me and I’m not getting a cut!”
