E! Online is taking notice of the many fans camped out for tonight’s premiere event:
It’s not exactly a national holiday, but there are some people who are treating tonight’s New Moon premiere in Los Angeles as if it were one.
Kestlie Stefanelli, a 14-year-old from Truckee, Calif., has taken three days off from school so she could camp out near the theater in the Westwood Village neighborhood of L.A. She and her mother, Laurie, are two of an estimated 500 people who started arriving on Thursday with pup tents, lawn chairs and sleeping bags in hopes of securing a good spot on or near the red carpet?
“Only one of my teachers knows what I’m actually doing,” Kestlie told us yesterday. “I told her I was going to L.A. and she just gave me my homework ahead of time.”
Mom Laurie said she thinks “half of the teachers would be very excited if they knew what she was doing.”
Many made the same pilgrimage trip last year for the Twilight premiere. And this time around, a couple is said to have come all the way from Australia to camp out. Amy Oeklers, 27, flew in from Minneapolis, while her friend actually made the 30-hour drive by car.

Cinematical has an interesting interview with Twilight and New Moon screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg about adapting the books for the screen and the visual life that Chris Weitz has injected into the film.
While it came as little surprise to the fans of Stephenie Meyers’ original books, the success of Twilight caught Hollywood and the rest of the world by storm when the first adaptation arrived in theaters late last year. A big part of the credit for the movie’s crossover success must be attributed to screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, who rendered the romance of Bella and Edward in dimensions that more than die-hards (or more accurately, Twi-hards) could understand and appreciate.
The Twilight sequel New Moon comes to theaters next Friday and offers even more tortured teenage romance than before, as well as a wealth of mythology about vampires, werewolves and other monsters that inhabit the series’ supernatural universe. Cinematical recently spoke to screenwriter Rosenberg at the film’s press day in Los Angeles; in addition to discussing the process of putting together a satisfying sequel, she talked about subjecting Bella to the universal disappointment of a bad break-up, and examined what audiences might take away from this latest installment in the series.
