Discussion Questions
This was the first time we heard from the point of view of someone other than Bella. What do you think of Jacob’s chapters?

Jacob and Edward are similar in that they each had secrets about themselves that they could not tell Bella, but had to leave it to her to figure things out. Each finds the other repulsive == the vampire smell for Jacob is repulsive as the smell of dog is to Edward. Bella seems comfortable with either though it Edward;s smell that is designed to seduce.
I was surprised the 1st time I read it to suddenly have Jacob be the person whose head I was in but honestly, I don't think that anyone else could have explained what was going on, certainly not Bella or Edward (too bad Edward's point of view was ruined for Stephanie). Some of it gets tedious and his dislike of Rosalie but perhaps it is more of a teen boy point of view.
the emotion is so strong for both Bella & Edward to have either of them narrate would have been overwhelming… Jake's point of view, while strongly involved gives some distance. It was a very smart choice on Stephanies' part.
The first time I read it, I didn't like having to be told the story through Jacob, but like the other's have said, it needed to be told from his point of view. That is the only way we could see it from all the sides. And it's kind of a relief sometimes to read through Jacob. He's got quite a sarcastic sense of humor! But I really missed Bella, even though I stopped identifying with her after part one.
Jacob's POV is so necessary because Bella edits to avoid telling unpleasant things and Edward was so consumed with guilt. The only way that the reader could get a realistic, objective idea of what Bella's pregnancy was like is to hear it from someone other than Bella or Edward.
