COSMOPOLIS’ principal photography starts today, May 23rd, in Toronto, Canada. Based on Don DeLillo’s praised novel, this highly awaited film to be directed by David Cronenberg gathered some of the most exciting stars of today’s industry, including names as ROBERT PATTINSON, JULIETTE BINOCHE, PAUL GIAMATTI, SAMANTHA MORTON and KEVIN DURAND, three-Oscar winning composer HOWARD SHORE and Cinematographer PETER SUSCHITZKY.

A ravishing cast and crew adds incredible value to the most recent project of the director, who already brought us masterpieces as “Crash” and “A History of Violence”. The filming ends on the 21st July 2011.

Here is information about Robert’s next leading role, “Cosmopolis.”

It’s been a couple of years since David Cronenberg got involved in the film adaptation of Don DeLillo’s novel Cosmopolis and we’re happy to let you know that shooting is set to begin in Toronto on May 24. There’ve been quite a few casting switches but it looks like all is settled. Robert Pattinson gets top billing, but the cast includes Jay Baruchel, Paul Giamatti, Sarah Gadon, Juliette Binoche and Kevin Durand.

Pattinson plays the character Eric Packer, a young, multi-billionaire asset manager who sets out one day in Manhattan (there goes Toronto pretending to be NYC again) in his fabulously appointed stretch limo to get a haircut. The story/parable takes place over one day, during which Packer loses everything. The ending is apocalyptic.

Pattinson says Cosmopolis is one of his favourite novels and that the role is very hard, but he is “trying to turn it.”

Robert will have lots of company in Cosmopolis. Here is some new casting updates in his next film, ‘Cosmopolis.’

Just when we thought the limo couldn’t get more crowded, we have three VERY important players joining us! The much anticipated (and polled) roles of Jane Melman and Torval have been cast! On the official Cosmopolis website, Emily Hampshire and Kevin Durand take on the important roles and we are SO happy to have faces to our favorite characters. Patricia McKenzie’s role remains unnamed, but our bets are on Kendra, what do you think?

All three actors hail from Canada and are relatively unknown. Last year Emily and Patricia stared together in the thriller Die. Kevin Durand has most recently appeared in I Am Number Four and starred last year as Little John in Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood.

This is shaping up to be another great cast, and Robert is the lead actor in the film!

Jay Baruchel has joined Robert Pattinson in the David Cronenberg-directed Cosmopolis. Pattinson plays a financial wiz kid who puts his life in danger by betting his entire fortune against the yen on a tumultous day in the adaptation of the Don DeLillo novel. Baruchel plays the shy guy who founded the company, and who acts as the trader’s conscience. Samantha Morton, Juliette Binoche, Paul Giamatti, Mathieu Amalric and Sarah Gadon also star. Baruchel just wrapped Goon, which he co-wrote with Evan Goldberg, and starred in and produced. He’s repped by CAA and Thruline.

Love him (teenage girls everywhere) or loathe him (their boyfriends), Robert “R.Pattz” Pattinson is apparently here to stay. With Water For Elephants out soon, he’s gearing up to star in Cosmopolis for David Cronenberg. Yes, you read that right. Yes, this may mean that you have to start liking him. Here’s what he had to say about his role.

“I’m just astonished that I’ve been cast. I’d read the script before and thought, ‘Wow, this is insane. But insane and difficult.’ And then, out of nowhere, my agent said, ‘Do you want to do it?’ I’d never thought about working with Cronenberg, but I’ve always loved his movies. It just never came into my head that there would ever be that opportunity.

“Y’know, there are so few auteurs left. The one thing that pisses me off about working in films is when you start a project and then, suddenly, two days before you start, there’s a massive rewrite to make an R-rated movie into something that’s PG-13, and it’s a totally different story. As soon as that line’s been crossed, you know you’re not making a movie anymore. You’re making a…a… fridge magnet. But with people like Cronenberg you know that, no matter what, there will be a movie at the end, and it will be solid and self-contained, and it’s not made for any other reason than it being a movie.”

Here is major news in the casting department for “Cosmopolis”. It has just been announced that Sarah Gadon who is a wonderful actress will be playing opposite Robert Pattinson’s character, Eric Packer. She is going to play Elise Shifrin his wife in the film.

With production set to being shooting this summer in Toronto, casting on David Cronenberg’s “Cosmopolis” starring Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche, Paul Giamatti, and Mathieu Amalric is wrapping up. Samantha Morton joined the cast last week—via a Robert Pattinson interview—now she’s been confirmed and according to Entertainment One, who is handling the picture’s distribution in Canada, one more has joined the cast: Canadian actress Sarah Gadon.

Known in Canada for the television series “Are You Afraid of the Dark?,” Gadon currently stars on the CBC drama, “The Border.” More importantly she has already worked with Cronenberg landing a smaller role in the filmmaker’s already-shot “A Dangerous Method” where she plays Emma Jung, Carl Jung’s wife. That picture stars Michael Fassbender, Viggo Mortensen, Keira Knightley and Vincent Cassel.

Gadon will be playing the role of Pattinson’s estranged wife Elise Shifrin.
